Constructing set-valued fundamental diagrams from Jamiton solutions in second order traffic models

چکیده
Fundamental diagrams of vehicular traffic flow are generally multivalued in the congested flow regime. We show that such set-valued fundamental diagrams can be constructed systematically from simple second order macroscopic traffic models, such as the classical Payne-Whitham model or the inhomogeneous Aw-Rascle-Zhang model. These second order models possess nonlinear traveling wave solutions, called jamitons, and the multi-valued parts in the fundamental diagram correspond precisely to jamiton-dominated solutions. This study shows that transitions from function-valued to set-valued parts in a fundamental diagram arise naturally in well-known second order models. As a particular consequence, these models intrinsically reproduce traffic phases.

"A Note on the Entropy Solutions of the Hydrodynamic Model of Traffic Flow" Revisited
This note revisits a paper from Velan and Florian [Velan and Florian(2002)] dealing with the entropy condition in traffic flow models. It aims to clarify the application of this condition for non-differentiable fundamental diagrams and then to correct some misunderstandings that appear in the above-mentioned paper. Notably, this note clearly exhibits that the non-smoothness of the fundamental d...
متن کاملAn interval-valued programming approach to matrix games with payoffs of triangular intuitionistic fuzzy numbers
The purpose of this paper is to develop a methodology for solving a new type of matrix games in which payoffs are expressed with triangular intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (TIFNs). In this methodology, the concept of solutions for matrix games with payoffs of TIFNs is introduced. A pair of auxiliary intuitionistic fuzzy programming models for players are established to determine optimal strategies...
متن کاملOptimal Signal Control in Urban Road Networks with High Priority Congested Centers
Keeping the density of traffic flow and air pollution in an acceptable level and developing a good capacity for transit in the high priority areas of the city, is really a big deal in large and crowded cities. To address this problem, a new method of intersection signal optimization is presented in this paper. Based on network fundamental diagrams, an Internal–External Traffic Metering Strategy...
متن کاملSignificance of Fundamental Diagrams to First-Order Macroscopic Traffic Modelling
Macroscopic models are computationally effective and generate reliable estimates of traffic dynamics based upon the principles of flow conservation and propagation, in which the underlying fundamental diagram (i.e. flow-density relationship) has an important part in capturing the plausible traffic propagation over time and space. This study investigates in practice whether, and in what extent, ...
متن کاملCoupling of Non-local Driving Behaviour with Fundamental Diagrams
We present an extended discussion of a macroscopic traffic flow model [18] which includes non-local and relaxation terms for vehicular traffic flow on unidirectional roads. The braking and acceleration forces are based on a behavioural model and on free flow dynamics. The latter are modelled by using different fundamental diagrams. Numerical investigations for different situations illustrate th...
